Starting a New Chapter
Imagine sitting your favorite chair, curled up with a warm, soft blanket. You can smell your coffee. You are in the middle of a book and so far, it hasn’t been so bad. You see the next chapter title called “Growth”. What’s your initial response? Is it fear? Is it nervousness? Is it curiosity? Is it anticipation? Is it cautious?
How do you decide to keep moving forward and keep reading? Curiosity of course! Because, it could be a really interesting or important chapter. It could work out or provide insight. Curiosity is one of my favorite therapy tools. It’s often the bridge between fear, shame or caution to compassion, care, and acceptance. Maybe even joy!
Here is the thing, if we can access our curioisty, it could work out. It might not work out, and you will still be ok. We don’t like every chapter. That’s also ok. At minimum, you will find out information about yourself. That’s valuable.
What do you need for yourself when you starting a new chapter? Do you need a warm bowl of soup? A good night’s sleep? Some time with friends? All of these can support you as you begin. What is most important is that you continue forward, stay curious and read the new chapter.
